Thank you so much for sharing this piece of art. As you know, I am not an artist, and could not possibly comment on the very evident skills needs to produce this piece of work. I believe you are an" ARTIST TO WATCH" and can see you are experimenting with many different ideas. This particular piece stood out for me as I have a great interest in chinese medicine and culture, and you have captured beautifully the essence and feel of China for me. My wife and I were very fortunate to visit there last year, and many chinese artists would like to be able to capture what you have here. The detailing of the fins and scales is just sublime and the facial expressions, to me, represent the laughter and love of life we found in China, which came as a surprise to us, as like many countries were predisposed to believe them a repressed people. The shading of the piece highlights the Ying and Yang representation wonderfully. The delicacy of the fintails is quite lovely and without an water present in the picture the feeling the fish are swimming is clear. Thanks again for this thought provoking, educational, motivational, intriguing piece of work. Also for the trip down memory lane of a wonderful holiday. Looking forward to viewing more of your art. Simon
I am so glad you like this and that evoked such thoughts and memories for you. The yin and yang symbols has a lot of meaning to me.
I like to think of this drawing as my first really good peice of work where I truly used my full heart and effort. It's been that way since, now I have a hard time just sketching or scribbling for fun and usually only start something with the finest intentions for it's completetion, which is both good and bad.
I feel bad for the darker fish on the right, I drew that one second and didn't quite leave enough room on the page for it, leaving it a bit crunched with a smaller tail and bigger head/body. Also no room for the smaller fins towards the tail and only have the one pectoral fin with fewer bones, because, back then I thought all the little bones made it lost against the rest of the fishes body.
I want to draw this again perhaps in color too, it's one of my favorites and has much meaning to me
Thanks for sharing your thoughts it really means a lot! I hope I get to travel to places like China someday
